About CapSlam

Capital Slam is a run by the Capital Poetry Collective. It is a twice monthly series that spotlights the best in Spoken Word and Performance Poetry! CapSlam is one of the longest running slam series in the country and is proud to have won the National Slam Championships TWICE, in 2009 and 2010.

Day: The 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month

Time: Doors and signup for performers (open mic and slam) opens at 6:30, show starts at 7:00

Place:  Cafe Alternatif, 60 Université Pvt, Ottawa

Cost: Free for performers and $8 for everyone else

Format: We start the night with an open mic–no rules, no judges. During the Slam Poets have a three minute time limit and are prohibited from the use of props or musical instruments. During the super summer season, slams include an additional round of one minute poems.  To score each poem, five judges are selected randomly from the crowd. At the end of the night the poet with the highest score wins a cash prize.
