CapSlamReCapFebEd#2

Titi Sonuga was in the house.

Let me say that again…

TITILOPE SONUGA WAS IN THE HOUSE!!!

You had to know this night was yogin to be special.

For some reason, after slam after slam of an over-full sign-up list, there were only seven slammers on tho sight.

But first… with Brandon Wint hosting and DJ RPM providing the atmosphere, we started with two very different sorts of singing on the open mic… Mayhem’s heavy metal inspired stylings and Jah Will sharing one of his own songs.

Lanark stalwart U-Turn spilled his sacrificial blood to start the slam off right. 6.0 7.0 8.0 8.5 8.7 – 23.5

Harsh. Still, it was early. The judges were getting warmed up.

With that in mind, who would get the unenviable task of being the first out of the hat? Lana K. 9.0 8.9 7.5 9.3 9.0 – 26.9

With the bar set, next up was a CapSlam rookie – Paapa Abekah. 9.0 9.0 8.9 8.8 8.3 – 26.7

Next month’s feature was up next – the prodigal DMP! 8.5 9.5 9.3 9.6 8.6 – 27.4

Alexander Way came to the last slam but just did the open mic because he only had one poem. He wrote another one! 8.3 8.7 9.5 9.5 8.4 – 26.6

DJ, Slam Master, and all around awesome human being (who just MYA be the one writing this report), Rusty Priske was next. 9.2 9.5 9.4 9.7 9.6 – 28.5

D-Zaster had some trouble with his poem, and it showed it his scores. Luckily all seven were going on to the second round because… well, just you wait. 7.0 7.0 9.3 9.2 8.0 – 24.2

Last but not in any way least was Kay’la Fraser. Least? How about Most! 9.3 8.8 9.7 9.7 9.9 – 28.7!

Then came our feature, Titilope Sonuga. Titi presented her poems in a different way – stringing them together so we almost had one, twenty minute long poem. It was different but the words were absolutely beautiful.

Then came round 2! All seven poets were going to go up again!

We started with Paapa Abekah. 8.5 8.6 8.8 8.5 7.8 – 25.6

Next was Rusty Priske. He was trailing Kay’la by .2… 8.9 9.3 9.0 9.5 9.6 – 27.8

Lana K followed… 8.5 8.2 9.0 TEN 9.9 – 27.4

Talk about a wide spread scores!

Kay’la Fraser had the lead after one round… 9.0 9.0 9.3 9.8 9.5 – 27.8

Alexander Way proved he had two poems… and the audience loved it! 8.7 9.1 9.6 9.7 9.5 – 28.2

DMP got… well, a little primal on the… mic stand. 8.9 9.2 9.8 TEN 9.7 – 28.7

The final poet was D-Zaster… and whoa! He brought the house down! 9.0 9.6 9.9 TEN TEN! – 29.5!

So, what was the final tally?

1. Kay’la Fraser – 56.5
2. Rusty Priske – 56.3
3. DMP – 56.1
4. Alexander Way – 54.8
5. Lana K – 54.3
6. D-Zaster – 53.7
7. Paapa Abekah – 52.3
