CapSlamReCapDecEd #1

It is December so ’tis the season for slamming! And what a slam we had!

The show kicked off with CapSlam team member and Urban Legends organizer Sean O’Gorman taking the stage as host! He introduced newcomer Speak Out to the open mic and then announced the big ticket giveaway to see the Company of Fools at GCTC.

We then moved onto the Slam which started with an AMAZING sac… none other than CapSlam legend, OpenSecret!

After the dust settled it was up to Colleen Leafloor, coming out of the hat in the bullet position. She battled mightily, but is sure hard to follow a hall of famer. She netted a 26.5.

Next was Kimbit, another of the welcomed onslaught of female poets in the CapSlam scene. She collected a 25.7.

Next up was another top name, but normally he plies his trade across town, as Hyfidelik of Urban Legends took the stage. He also took the lead with a 27.8

Speaking of amazing female poets, V was up next and Hyf’s lead was short lived as she grabbed a 28.4.

V was followed by Dini, a Human with Experience, who entertained and explained his way to a 25.8.

Kingston Pen team member and Youth Slam organizer, ArRay-of-WoRds went up next and got a solid 27.5. Would it be enough to get to the second round?

Ronsense, who has slammed before this season, but not with such a strength of presence and performance. He blew away the judges and audience and got a 29.4, easily taking the highest mark of the first round.

Mia Morgan, another rising name on the scene, got a 27.3.

CapSlam Slam Master, Rusty Priske went up next and went the rapid fire route. It worked as the judges saw fit to give him a 28.2.

The round was finished off by Loh El. He was announced as getting a 28.7 but we are announcing a scoring error here, though. It seems he went 3:12, but a time penalty was not levied. Luckily, this change does not alter the final results of the slam.

Then we got the feature performer. Tanya Davis is a GREAT poet, a WONDERFUL person, ad a treat to have on our stage. Great set.

We kicked off the second round with another sac… which is not how we normally roll at CapSlam, and likely won’t be what we do in the future. Word Lover was heading out of town and gave us… well, 3-4 poems worth of material.

When we got to the actual second round, Rusty Priske kicked things off strongly, getting a 28.2 (consistency!)

Loh El gave us his view on Santa Claus and the judges gave their view on his poem… which was a 27.7.

V read her way to a 1.5 point time penalty, dropping her to a 26.1.

Hyfidelik came strong and got a 28.7 but…

…once again it was Ronsense who got the highest marks of the round, getting a 29.2 AFTER a .5 penalty.
